4th of July Rice Krispie Treats

Get ready to snap, crackle, and celebrate! These 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats are a chewy, gooey explosion of flavor and fun. Each square is packed with crispy rice cereal folded into buttery, melted marshmallows, with a festive twist—red, white, and blue sprinkles swirled right into the mix, so every bite bursts with patriotic color and sweet nostalgia. Soft, sticky, and just the right amount of crunch, they’re the perfect handheld treat for fireworks, picnics, and everything in between.

Things to consider before beginning…

Making these is a super sticky situation. Be prepared! You can make these as festive or not festive as you’d like. I like to mix up the different colored/shaped sprinkes and every once in a while I can find red, white, and blue colored marshmallows to add another level of color to these. When doing so, you will just have to divide the marshmallow mix and shape into the batches one section at a time. And as much as I am against it, you can also add food coloring…but sometimes festive treats call for the unhealthy! It’s ok, it’s just once in a while…

Also, if I didn’t mention already, these are very sticky…

Ingredients / Things You Need

  • 2 Tablespoons butter

  • 10 ounces marshmallows (any size)

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • 6 tablespoons festive sprinkles

Directions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper for easy removal (or spray with cooking spray—parchment paper works best in my opinion).

  2. Over medium heat, add butter to a large saucepan until melted. Do not let the butter get brown.

  3. Add in the marshmallows and mix until fully melted.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the stovetop.

  5. Add in the Rice Krispies cereal and mix until the cereal is fully coated.

  6. Add in 4 tablespoons of sprinkles. Mix until the sprinkles are fully mixed in.

  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish.

  8. Press the mixture into the dish. I find this easiest if I spray my hand with nonstick spray and press it in or you can take a piece of parchment paper and lay it on top and then press and smooth them out.

  9. Sprinkle with remaining 2 Tablespoons of sprinkles. Press the sprinkles into the Rice Krispies treats.

  10. Allow the Rice Krispies Treats to set for 10-15 minutes. Cut into your choice of size and enjoy!
