Amelia Bedelia Series

If your kids love to laugh—and you secretly enjoy watching them learn the difference between “dusting the furniture” and “putting dust on the furniture”—then the Amelia Bedelia series is about to become your new favorite read-aloud. Amelia is the queen of taking everything way too literally, which means chaos, giggles, and a lot of explaining (“No, sweetie, we don’t actually draw the curtains with a pencil”). Whether she’s baking a pie, getting a new job, or just trying to follow instructions, Amelia’s well-meaning mix-ups are perfect for kids learning language—and for parents who’ve ever had to explain why “break a leg” isn’t a threat. It’s wholesome, hilarious, and just the right amount of silly to make bedtime reading a blast.

My mom was a teacher and each year she would recruit me to help her set up her classroom the week before school started. I discovered these books when I was in college and read them one day (instead of helping, yikes!). I found them hilarious! I bought them for my own children once they were of age, and they loved them nearly as much as me!
