Best Sunflower Farms in NJ

Each summer, fields of golden sunflowers start popping up across New Jersey like sunshine on a stick, and suddenly it feels like the whole state is ready to frolic. From the end of July through August (sometimes early September!), day trips to sunflower farms become a beloved seasonal tradition—part peaceful nature walk, part flower-picking adventure, and part “let’s start getting ready for fall.” You get fresh air, stunning blooms, and the chance to take home your own bouquet. But where exactly are these magical fields of summer cheer? Here is my list of the best sunflower farms in NJ to soak in the sunshine without accidentally wandering into a corn maze…yet.

  1. Holland Ridge Farm — Cream Ridge, NJ

While not my personal favorite, nearly all of my friends disagree and rate Holland Ridge Farm as the perfect late summer/early fall day trip—family-run and blooming with charm. This September, their U-pick Sunflowers Fall Festival kicks off with 50¢ stems on weekdays ($1 on weekends), plus admission. In addition to sunflowers, Holland Ridge Farms hosts a food truck calendar to make you salivate, hayrides, a petting zoo, and more. It’s flower-picking fun with built-in snacks and entertainment for the kids—what more could you ask for?

  2. Alstede Farm — Chester, NJ

If you're looking for an all-in-one outdoor adventure, visit my personal favorite, Alstede Farm in Chester, NJ is calling your name! From July through September, their sunflower fields are open daily for picking (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and kids under two get in free. Think hayrides, farm animals, fresh snacks, and even live music and wine at sunset during harvest season. It’s the perfect way to tire out the kids and treat yourself at the same time. Bonus: check out their U-pick calendar, as Alstede offers may different fruit and vegetable options! If you’re there early enough in the season, you can choose from a wide variety of fall fruits, veggies, and flowers. If there are still sunflowers available later in the season, you have a chance of getting in on the fall crops! Maybe this is why it’s my favorite.

  3. VonThun Farms — Washington Township, NJ

Another favorite of mine, VonThun Farms in Washington Township has you covered for your sunflower needs! Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Labor Day, their Sunflower Trail offers U-pick flowers, photo ops, and peaceful strolls through blooming fields. Bonus: there's raspberry and peach picking in Washington Township, and blueberries at their South Brunswick spot. It’s fresh air, fresh fruit, and floral fun for the whole crew!

  4. Brodhecker Farm — Sparta, NJ

If you're chasing that golden-hour magic, Brodhecker Farm in Sparta, NJ is a must-visit! Known for its stunning sunflower fields, this spot is open daily with peak blooms in August. It’s perfect for a peaceful walk, flower picking, or snapping a few frame-worthy pics of the kids (or just you—because you deserve it). What makes this farm different than most others (all listed here) is that this farm also offers fresh and frozen meat and poultry cuts daily. Brodhecker Farm prides itself on providing locally grown and well-balanced feed to all of their livestock.

  5. Stokes Farm — Old Tappan, NJ

Stokes Farm is a hidden gem in Bergen County! If I need a sunflower quick fix, this is my local go-to from July through October for fresh air and flower fun! Their sunflower fields are a seasonal favorite—perfect for strolling and picking your own bright blooms—U-pick flower memberships are even offered!!! They even offer fun BYOB Plant & Sip workshops (yes, wine and plants!). It’s the perfect mix of kid-friendly and mom-approved.
